The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has provided Myanmar with 175,544 tonnes of rice, worth 167.69 million USD, reported the country’s media on April 11.

The aid from the world’s largest humanitarian agency is expected to help the poor and people short of food in Kachin, Chin, Rakhine, Shan, Kayin and Yangon from now until 2015.

On April 10, the Myanmar Ministry of Border Affairs and the WFP inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the rapid response to disasters, recovering and raising the socio-economic position of residents in areas of conflict, providing better access to education as well as coping with malnutrition in people with HIV and pulmonary diseases.-VNA
