NA Chairwoman highlights importance of sixth session

– The sixth session of the 14th National Assembly is of greatimportance as it will review the country’s performance in the first half of the2016-2020 tenure, said NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan at the opening of thesession in Hanoi on October 22.

The top legislatorhighlighted the comprehensive achievements the country has recorded under theleadership of the Party and with the strong reform of the law-making body, thedrastic actions of the Government and great efforts of the entire politicalsystem and people.

She noted the good GDPgrowth every year, improved social welfare and people’s living condition, progressin economic restructuring and stable security and defence, and the country’s enhancedposition in the region and the world.

The NA leader citedstatistics that showed in the first nine months of 2018, GDP growth reached6.98 percent, the highest rise since 2011.

Those achievementshave created a new momentum for development and strengthened the people’s trustin the leadership of the Party and State.

Speaking on the agendaof the NA’s 6th session, Chairwoman Ngan said nine bills areexpected to be passed, which is another step forward in completing the legalsystem on institutions of the socialist-oriented market economy, ensuring humanrights and citizens’ rights, improving public health care, intensifyingcorruption prevention and combat, accelerating judicial reform, consolidatingnational security, defence, and completely renovating education and training,thus meeting the requirements of modernisation, industrialisation andinternational integration.

Underlining thescheduled ratification of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement on theTrans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and relevant documents at this session, Ngannoted that the deal will create an important foundation for Vietnam to continueintegrating deeply into the world, and new motivation for national development.

The NA leader also statedthat the NA will check the implementation of promises made by Cabinet members,the Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court and the head of the SupremePeople’s Procuracy in the previous NA session.

Regarding personnelmatters, the NA will conduct vote of confidence on officials holding positionselected or approved by the NA, elect the President of the country, and considerand approve the dismissal and appointment of the Minister of Information andCommunication.

Ngan emphasised that the vote of confidencewill demonstrate the legislature’s assessment of efforts and performance of theofficials.

Following the NA Chairwoman’s openingremarks, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc presented a report on nationalsocio-economic situation in 2018 and the socio-economic development plan in2019, including mid-term assessment of the implementation of the socio-economicdevelopment plan for 2016-2020.

President of the Vietnam Fatherland FrontCentral Committee delivered a report on opinions and petitions sent in byvoters and people nationwide.

Chairman of the NA’s Economic Committee VuHong Thanh presented the evaluation of the realisation of the legislativebody’s resolution on the socio-economic development plan in 2018, three-yearimplementation of the 2016-2020 plan and the socio-economic development plan in2019.-VNA
