NA, State President, Government present working reports to 14th legislature

Reports on the performance of the 14th National Assembly (NA), the State President, and the Government in the 2016-2021 tenure were respectively delivered by NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong, and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the legislature’s 11th session that opened on March 24.

Hanoi (VNA) – Reportson the performance of the 14th National Assembly (NA), the StatePresident, and the Government in the 2016-2021 tenure were respectivelydelivered by NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Party General Secretary andState President Nguyen Phu Trong, and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the legislature’s11th session that opened on March 24.

Presenting the draft reporton the performance of the 14th NA, which was elected on May 22,2016, in the past tenure, Chairwoman Ngan said during the tenure, the NA hasstepped up and improved the quality of law making activities, creating auniform legal foundation for the country’s fast and sustainable development,the safeguarding of national independence, sovereignty, and security, andintegration into the world.

The parliament has intensifiedsupervision while continually reforming the method of supervision and focusing npressing issues, she said, noting that the NA has considered and made many importantdecisions that had great impacts on the country’s socio-economic life, thedevelopment of mountainous and ethnic minority areas, national defence –security, and foreign relations.

External activities of the NAhave also been carried out effectively, which has considerably contributed tothe Party and State’s diplomatic achievements and helped maintain a peacefuland stable environment for national construction, defence, and development andraise Vietnam’s stature in the international arena.

In the report on the StatePresident’s performance in the 2016-2021 tenure, Party General Secretary andState President Trong highlighted that the President has paid special attentionto leading and steering Party building work and the building of a pure andstrong political system.

He stressed the determinationand persistence in the fight against corruption, wastefulness and negativephenomena, which has been carried out in a drastic and effective manner sincethe tenure’s beginning.

The State President’s workthroughout the tenure, together with the entire Party, people, and army, has greatlyhelped bring into play the patriotic tradition and the great national unity;build a clean and strong Party and political system; comprehensively anduniformly push ahead with the Doi moi (Renewal) process; strengthen the defence- security capacity to firmly safeguard the country’s independence,sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and sea and island sovereignty; andfoster external relations and international integration in an increasinglyextensive and intensive manner, thus promoting Vietnam’s standing in the regionand the world, according to the leader.

Proposing orientations andtasks for the time ahead, he emphasised that the State President will keepexerting efforts to better perform the tasks regulated by the Constitution andlaws, as well as the duties assigned by the Politburo and the Party CentralCommittee’s Secretariat.

Delivering a report on the Government’s performance in the 2016-2021, PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that one of the outstanding features of theleadership and management work of the Government during the tenure is that theGovernment and the Prime Minister have focused on directing sectors andall-level authorities to actively conduct reforms and take drastic actions,strictly follow the Party’s leadership and the National Assembly’s supervision,and fully perform tasks and exercise authority in line with the Constitution andlaws.

The Government has carriedout strategic breakthroughs, especially those in completing thesocialist-oriented market economic institutions, while making efforts to dealwith difficulties through a lot of measures, including investing in increasing thequality of human resources, generating jobs for nearly 8 million labourers andputting people at the centre of innovation.

Prime Minister Phuc alsosummed up the tenure’s achievements in five main harmonious points.

Firstly, it is the harmonybetween opening the door to the world, reforming and boosting socio-economicdevelopment with consolidating and improving the leadership and prestige of theParty, the supervision of the National Assembly, and the cooperation of theFatherland Front and social organisations. In other words, it is the harmonybetween stability and renewal, between following market rules and ensuring thesocialist orientations, and in the relations among the State, the market andsociety.

Secondly, this is the harmonybetween rapid economic development and ensuring social progress and protectingthe environment.

Third is the harmony betweeninternal and external strengths, between the domestic and the foreign-investedsectors, between domestic and foreign trade, and between building anindependent and self-reliant economy with opening the door and integrating intothe world economy. The PM noted that the domestic economic sector holds adecisive role, and the FDI sector is an important part of the Vietnameseeconomy.

Fourth is the harmony betweenshort-term priorities and long-term goals. Along with short-term prioritiessuch as growth, employment and inflation, long-term targets such as completinginstitutions, developing human resources and stepping up sustainable povertyreduction and socio-cultural development have received due attention.

Fifthly, Phuc said, this isthe harmony in balancing national financial resources, budget balance, publicdebt, current account balance, international payment balance and foreignexchange reserves, in ensuring human resources and in other macro balances./.

Vietnam ready to strengthen BRICS connection with Asia-Pacific

Hang called on countries to act responsibly in accordance with international law and the UN Charter; respect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states; refrain from using or threatening to use force; and settle disputes peacefully through dialogue. Photo exhibition highlights Vietnam–DPRK relations

Visitors at the exhibition were moved by historical photographs dating back nearly 70 years, including images of the founding leader of the DPRK Kim Il Sung personally welcoming President Ho Chi Minh and a CPV delegation at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport during their visit to the DPRK from July 8–12, 1957. In return, the DPRK leader paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 27 to December 3, 1958.
