National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong held talks with her visiting Lao counterpart Somphan Phengkhammy in Hanoi on March 11.

The NA Vice Chairwoman briefed the guest on Vietnam’s socio-economic development situation and activities of the Vietnamese legislature in the recent time, affirming that the two legislative bodies importantly contributed to fostering the all-round cooperation between the two countries.

She underlined the mutual support between the National Assemblies of Vietnam and Laos in developing human resources and their effective cooperation at many multilateral forums such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The host also congratulated the Lao side on becom ing the host of the General Assembly of AIPA-35 in September.

Somphan Phengkhammy said his vi sit aims to study the organisation and operation of People’s Councils at all level, especially Vietnam’s experience in establishing and running the offices of People’s Councils.

He expressed his hope to have a chance to study the operation model of the People’s Council in Hanoi and the northern provinces of Cao Bang and Lang Son. -VNA
