The Vietnamese flag will fly on Thoi Loi mountain, the highest peak in Ly Son island, central Quang Ngai province, by the end of this year as construction on a flagpole at the site started on May 4.

The flagpole, which is 25 metres high, looking towards Hoang Sa archipelago, is designed and built with fund raised by students as part of their on-going “Students with the nation’s sea and islands 2013” programme.

On this occasion, doctors of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Quang Ngai provincial chapter and the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Young Entrepreneurs provided free medical check-ups and medicines to over 500 poor local people.

The “Students with the nation’s sea and islands 2013” programme is jointly organised by the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Students’ Association, the Vietnamese Student Support and Development Centre and the Quang Ngai chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

As many as 9,000 students from universities and colleges across the country are participating in the programme.-VNA
