Hanoi (VNA) – The Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Park Hang Seo will be new head coach of Vietnam’s national football team, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced on September 29.

The 58-year-old coach Park will also take charge of the U23 team.

VFF representatives negotiated with Park in the RoK on September 29 and the two sides agreed a contract which will be officially signed next month.

Park was an assistant of the RoK’s national team in World Cup in 1994 and 2002. As the top assistant to coach Guus Hiddink, Park played a role in the RoK’s fourth place finish in the 2002 tournament, the best an Asian side has ever performed in the competition.

After that, Park coached his country’s U23 team to a bronze medal at the Asian Games in Busan, the RoK, in 2002. He has also managed professional teams such as Gyeongnam FC, Chunnam Dragons, Sangju Sangmu Phoenix and Changwon FC.-VNA
