A seminar on formulating ASEAN member country policies for lifelong learning took place in Hanoi on January 10.

The event drew the participation of 150 delegates from ministries, research institutes, universities, domestic and international organisations, as well as representatives from Southeast Asian countries.

They shared their experiences in creating national policy frameworks for lifelong learning, and defined effective strategies to set up learning systems.

They focused on constructing a regional-level document on lifelong learning policy and strategy, and an action plan for regional cooperation that will see the implementation of the policies.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien, who is also Head of the National Steering Committee on Building a Learning Society, said building a learning society in line with lifelong learning is an obvious development of mankind, especially in an era of knowledge-based economies, integration and globalisation.

An effective national policy is crucial so the outcomes of the seminar will help broaden viewpoints and provide information for ASEAN member countries that want to set up their own policies, he added.

Recommendations and proposals at the seminar will be raised at the 47 th Southeast Asian Education Ministers’ Conference (SEAMEC), which is scheduled for March 19-21.-VNA
