Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 21 signed a decision approving the establishment of a National Steering Committee for implementing Vietnam's commitments at the the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).
PM Chinh is the head of the Steering Committee, while Deputy PM Le Van Thanh is the deputy head of the committee.
The Steering Committee is an inter-sectoral organization, performing the function of helping the Prime Minister to research, direct, coordinate, and handle important interdisciplinary work related to the implementation of Vietnam's commitments at COP26.
The Steering Committee is also tasked with helping strengthen coordination of climate change response activities among ministries, sectors and localities, and cooperation between Vietnam and international organizations, development partners and countries.
The Steering Committee will review and fine-tune relevant mechanisms, policies, laws, strategies, plans; promote administrative reform to create a favourable environment; and attract investment in developing infrastructure to respond to climate change.
It will also direct the implementation of programmes, projects and prioritized tasks to respond to climate change, and promote energy transformation in order to fulfill Vietnam's commitments at COP26.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is the standing body of the Steering Committee./.
