National women’s football team to receive training in Japan

Hanoi (VNA) – Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Umeda Kunio held a ceremonyin Hanoi on July 30 for Vietnam’s national women’s football team before they headto Japan’s Mimasaka city from August 1-11 to train in preparation for the 2018Asian Games (ASIAD 2018).

The event was held on the occasion of thevisit to Vietnam by Mimasaka Mayor Hagiwara Seiji and aimed to boost footballexchanges between Japan and Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Kuniosaid the event was one of more than 100 activities held in 2018 to celebratethe 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

The Japanese government wants to intensifybilateral cooperation in football, he said, hoping that all players in thenational team will achieve a target of winning the ticket to the 2020 Olympics inTokyo.

Le Thi Hoang Yen, deputy head of the VietnamSports Administration under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, saidJapan has supported Vietnam in the field of sports through the programme“Sports for Tomorrow” to look towards the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.

The team’s coach Mai Duc Chung thanked theJapanese government and Mimasaka’s authorities for creating favourableconditions for the team to train in the city to prepare for ASIAD 2018 inIndonesia.

The ASIAD 2018 is expected to draw 15,000 athletes and coaches from 45sport delegations competing in 40 sports, 67 disciplines and 463 events.

To be held in Jakarta and Palembang from August 18 to September 2, theGames will feature 32 Olympic sports in a bid to help athletes prepare for the2020 Tokyo Olympics.-VNA

Under the tournament format, the semifinals and final will be played over two legs. Vietnam will travel to Malaysia for the first leg on August 16 before hosting the second leg on August 19.
