Vientiane (VNA) – The security force in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in the Lao province of Bokeo recently coordinated with relevant units to successfully bust a cyber-scam gang, arresting 771 suspects, Lao media reported on August 20.
The suspects include both men and women from 15 Asian and African countries. As many as 709 desktop computers, 28 laptops, 1,896 mobile phones, two iPads, and 10 USB drives were seized in the raid.
The move aimed to address transnational crime in the zone, thus maintaining social order and security, and preventing illegal business activities from operating in the Lao territory.
In early this month, Vietnamese and Lao police also successfully dismantled a large-scale cyber fraud and human trafficking operation in the zone, arresting 155 Vietnamese nationals involved in sophisticated, cross-border fraudulent activities./.
