New power station has first boiler drum installed

The first 230 tonne boiler drum was successfully installed in the Mong Duong 2 Thermal Power Plant in Cam Pha City of Quang Ninh northern province on August 17.

The first 230 tonne boiler drum was successfully installed in the MongDuong 2 Thermal Power Plant in Cam Pha City of Quang Ninh northernprovince on August 17.

Mong Duong 2 is the firstand biggest built-operate-transfer (BOT) plant in Vietnam to datewith funding contributed by US’s AES Group, the Posco Power Group fromthe RoK and the China Investment Corporation.

Thisis a significant milestone on the completion schedule, along withfinishing the steel structure and installing the rest of the plant’sboilers.

Speaking at the ceremony, David Stone, theGeneral Director of the AES-VCM Mong Duong Power Company, which isresponsible for the project, promised to complete the project on time tohelp Vietnam to meet its increasing demand for power.

Construction started at the Mong Duong 2 thermal power station inAugust last year and to date 40 percent of the work has been completed.It currently employs 180 technicians and 2,350 local workers.

The plant is scheduled to be fully operational by 2015, capable ofproducing 7.6 billion kWh of power annually. The power station will behanded over to the Vietnamese Government after 25 years.-VNA
