Hanoi (VNA) – The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) on December 19 officially inaugurated the expanded Terminal T2 at Noi Bai International Airport, introducing Vietnam’s first fully integrated digital passenger flow.

Launched in May 2024 with a total investment of nearly 200 million USD, the project was completed in just over 18 months, ensuring construction proceeded safely while accommodating hundreds of daily flights.

The inauguration comes at a crucial time, relieving congestion at the North’s busiest airport ahead of the 2026 Lunar New Year peak and tourism season.

The project expands the terminal’s floor area to over 200,000 sq.m, increases passenger capacity from 10 million to 15 million, even up to 18 million per year, and boosts operational capacity with boarding gates rising from 17 to 30 and jet bridges from 14 to 27, meeting strong growth in international travel demand.

Beyond expanding infrastructure, the Terminal 2 extension also marks a significant step in the ACV’s digital transformation strategy.

For the first time at a Vietnamese international airport, a fully integrated digital ecosystem has been implemented. From Kiosk Check-in and Self Bag Drop to automated immigration lanes and biometric security checks, the system creates a seamless digital passenger flow.

The digital passenger flow marks a transformative step, shifting operations from manual to automated processes, enhancing efficiency, and bringing the passenger experience closer to the standards of top regional and global airports.

In addition to technology, the terminal features an open design that maximises natural light and incorporates ecological green spaces. Local cultural elements are also subtly integrated into the modern layout, reinforcing Noi Bai International Airport’s role as a cultural gateway welcoming international visitors.

As the capital city’s international gateway, serving VIP and priority flights nationwide, the Terminal T2 is more than just infrastructure facility, it embodies a strong commitment to sustainable airport design (Green Airport)./.
