Delegations from the Steering Committee for southwest region on February 4 visited and presented gifts to poor households in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and Ben Tre province.
The gift packages came on the occasion on the forthcoming traditional Lunar New Year (Tet), the biggest festival in a year for Vietnamese.
Deputy Director of the committee Nguyen Phong Quang extended his New Year greetings and delivered gifts (each worth one million VND) to 100 low-income households in Phong Dien, Co Do and O Mon districts of Can Tho.
The same day, Vo Trong Huu, head of the committee’s Department of Socio-Cultural Affairs presented Tet gifts to 100 underprivileged households in Ba Tri and Thanh Phu districts of Ben Tre, each worth one million VND.
Huu said the committee has received 12 billion VND (560,000 USD) in donations from businesses and philanthropists to support low-income residents during the Lunar New Year.-VNA
