Ngoc Linh ginseng, medical herbs centerpiece of exhibition

Kon Tum (VNA) – An exhibition focusing on NgocLinh ginseng and other medical herbs opened in the Central Highlands provinceof Kon Tum on September 4.

The four-day event features 20 stalls of local enterprisesand a number of firms from the Republic of Korea, the country also known farand wide in the world for gingseng.

It is part of activities aiming to develop the herbalmedicine sector based on domestically-available materials, offering anopportunity for Kon Tum to popularise its herbal resources, seek partnerships,and exchange experience in the field.

Forest coverage amounts to 62.3 percent of the total area inKon Tum, creating a diverse source of natural herbs, such as Ngoc Linhgingseng, dang shen, Anoectochilus setaceus, and five-flavor berry.

The Ngoc Linh ginseng (Panax vietnamensis, or Vietnameseginseng), a rare medical root containing 52 saponin compounds helpful tohealth, was found on Ngoc Linh Mountain on the boundary between Kon Tum and thecentral province of Quang Nam in the late 1960s.

In June 2017, Ngoc Linh ginseng was included in the list ofnational products by the Prime Minister.

Kon Tum built a conservation centre for the Ngoc Linhginseng in 2004. The province now has more than 400 hectares of the ginseng,of which over 320 ha are managed by the Kon Tum Ngoc Linh ginseng joint stockcompany. The plantation is for preservation and expansion, with products fromlocal Ngoc Linh ginseng yet to be available in the market.-VNA

Japanese-funded bomb, mine clearance equipment project launched

Colonel Le Quang Hop, Deputy General Director of VNMAC, noted that the project includes the acquisition of four specialised pieces of equipment for mine clearance, as well as training and technology transfer. Quang Ngai to remove hundreds of unregistered fishing vessels

To date, Quang Ngai has 5,194 registered fishing vessels, with data regularly updated in the National Fisheries Database (VNFishbase). The provincial licensing rate for fishing activities has reached 81.94%, while 99% of local vessels required to install vessel monitoring systems (VMS) have complied.

A total of 351 communes free of temporary, dilapidated houses

From February 21-28, 7,540 temporary and dilapidated houses were renovated or replaced nationwide, bringing the total number of facilities improved under humanitarian policy to 115,481. Of these, 62,737 houses were inaugurated, while construction began on another 52,744.
