Foreign non-governmental organisations (NGO), and businesses operating in Ho Chi Minh City have contributed significantly to the friendship and cooperation between the city and international friends, through their active participation in socio-economic and charitable projects.
Phung Cong Dung, President of Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations stated this at a meeting with overseas NGOs on April 24.
Dung also praised several individuals, embassies and business associations in the city for taking part in activities launched by the union, including building bridges, charity houses and schools, awarding scholarships and presenting New Year gifts to the poor.
Last year, the municipal People’s Committee approved 16 projects worth nearly 7 million USD and 136 aid packages valued at 29 million USD from NGOs.
In the first quarter of this year, it ratified five projects and received 26 aid packages, mainly focusing on health care, vocational training and child care.
Currently, more than 150 foreign NGOs are operating in Ho Chi Minh City, including 61 from America and 54 from Europe.-VNA
