NGOs honoured for contributions to Vietnam’s poverty reduction

Hanoi (VNA) – TheVietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) has presented certificates ofmerit and insignia “For peace and friendship among nations” to 30 foreignnon-governmental organistions (NGOs) in honour of their practical contributionsto poverty reduction in Vietnam.

The awarding took place at aconference held in Hanoi on December 23, with the participation of nearly 150delegates from NGOs, ministries, agencies and localities.

In his opening speech, permanentDeputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said the event aims to update foreignNGOs on the latest legal regulations and administrative procedures in Vietnamrelating to NGOs’ operation.

The conference was also hoped toprovide a venue for the NGOs to raise their problems and seek explanations fromrelevant agencies, he said.

VUFO Vice President Don TuanPhong, for his part, said the Working Committee for Foreign NGOS and the VUFOwill further promote information exchange and connectivity between localitiesand donors, businesses and foreign NGOs, as well as increase fundraising fromNGOs in the future.

At the event, officials from theMinistry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs’ Employment Department and theHanoi municipal taxation department also answered queries raised by NGOs inVietnam./.
