Nguyen Xuan Phuc was elected as State President of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 tenure on July 26 during the first session of the 15th National Assembly in Hanoi.

Hanoi (VNA) – Nguyen Xuan Phuc was electedas State President of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 tenure on July 26 during thefirst session of the 15th National Assembly in Hanoi.

A resolution on the election was adopted with all483 deputies present, or 96.79 percent of total lawmakers, voting “yes”. Thedocument takes effect right after it was approved by the legislature.

67-year-old Phuc, a native of the central provinceof Quang Nam, is Politburo member of the 11th, 12th and13th tenures, member of the Party Central Committee of the 10th,11th, 12th, 13th tenures, and NA deputy of the11th, 13th, 14th and 15th tenures.

He served as Prime Minister during the 13th and 14th tenures of the legislature, and State President for2016-2021 (from April 2021)./.

Resolution adjusting 2025 socio-economic development plan adopted

Under the resolution, the legislative body decided to adjust some key targets. Accordingly, the gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate is set to reach 8% or higher, with the GDP scale this year expected to exceed 500 billion USD. The GDP per capita is projected to surpass 5,000 USD, and the average consumer price index (CPI) growth rate is targeted to be around 4.5 - 5%.

On February 19, the 15th National Assembly adopted the Law on Organisation of Local Governments (revised) and the Law on Promulgation of Legal Documents (revised).

NA greenlights investment policy of Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong rail project

According to the resolution, the construction of a modern and harmonious railway aims to meet the transport demand between Vietnam and China. The initiative is expected to serve as a catalyst for rapid and sustainable economic development along the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong economic corridor while strengthening national defence and security and promoting the industrialisation and modernisation, contributing to delivering on the targets and missions set at the documents of the 13th National Party Congress and the Party’s resolutions.

NA deputies to approve several resolutions, laws on February 19

The deputies will pass a resolution addressing issues related to the streamlining of the political system’s organisational apparatus, a resolution on supplementation to the 2025 socio-economic development plan with a growth target of at least 8%, and another on pilot policies to remove barriers in science-technology research and innovation activities.
