There was no Vietnamese citizen among the dead in the March 11 fire at the Admiral trade centre in Kazan city, Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan, said the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 14.

Staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia arrived at the scene on March 11 and coordinated with local agencies to support Vietnamese nationals, the ministry added.

It continued to say that the Embassy on March 13 announced no Vietnamese was killed in the fire, but one Vietnamese suffered from broken bone and was hospitalised on March 12 while two others had slight injuries.

The Embassy is working with Kazan authorities and Russia’s Federal Migration Service on measures to assist the local Vietnamese community, the ministry said.

The Admiral trade centre has 1,274 booths, including those of Vietnamese nationals.

The fire here has so far claimed at least 16 lives while about 18 others are still under the collapsed, according to the Russian Emergencies Ministry.-VNA
