The northern region is experiencing biting cold weather on January 18-19, with the temperature dropping to 11-14 degrees Celsius at the lowest and even below 5 degrees Celsius in high mountains.

Hanoi (VNA) – The northern region isexperiencing biting cold weather on January 18-19, with the temperature dropping to 11-14degrees Celsius at the lowest and even below 5 degrees Celsius in highmountains.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-MeteorologicalForecasting, temperatures in the northern central region will drop to 14-17degrees Celsius at the lowest.

Downpours, thunderstorms, whirlwinds, with lightning, hailand strong winds are expected in the central region, the centre said.

On January 18, the northern part of the East Sea, includingthe waters around the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, and the western area of thesea’s southern part, including the western waters of the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago,are expected to see strong northeasterly wind and rough sea./.

Northern region to experience cold spell

The cold air is forecast to reach northeastern Vietnam from the evening and night of October 4 before spreading to other parts of the north and the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue. Winds will shift to the northeast at levels 2-3 inland and levels 3-4 along coastal areas.

Floods affect over 16,000 homes, nearly 25,000ha of crops

The floods submerged and damaged 22,499ha of rice, crops and vegetables, along with 2,172ha of other crops. A further 1,175.62ha of aquaculture areas were affected. Some 1,999 metres of irrigation canals were eroded or damaged, while 15 schools were flooded.

Ninh Binh establishes Kim Bang white-rumped langur conservation area
