Renowned British-Vietnamese pianist Tra Nguyen, British cellist ZoeMartlew, and concert master of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra andviolinist Atle Sponberg will hold a week-long training programme foryoung musicians along with a concert in Ho Chi Minh City early nextmonth.
The event, called Saigon Chamber Music, isorganised by the HCM City Conservatory and Transposition Programme,which is a collaborative effort with Norway to develop music in Vietnam.
Tran Thi Nguyet Sa, a consultant to the TranspositionProgramme, told Vietnam News: "Based on the lines of summer musicfestivals in the US and UK, the programme will provide training,international exposure, and in-depth understanding of music for youngmusicians.
"It is expected to inspire the young Vietnamese musicians to set and achieve higher goals in their career."
The event will kick off with the concert by the visiting musicianscalled "Mosaic of a Century" on August 2. It will feature romantic andimpressionist music from Ravel and Kodaly to Shostakovich andcontemporary works from the last and this centuries.
Nineteen young musicians have been chosen from the conservatory, HueAcademy, and Vietnam National Academy of Music for the training.
They will train for a week from 8.30am to 6pm every day.
The visiting artists will also hold afternoon workshops on August 3 and 7, which are open to music lovers.
They will hold master classes for pianists, cellists, and violinists onthe evenings of fourth and sixth, and a "professional talk" on August5.
The best students will perform at a closing concertcalled "Young Virtuosos Concert Series" on the eighth. All theprogrammes will be held at the HCM City Conservatory at 112 Nguyen DuStreet.
