OFID funds rural road projects in Vietnam

Director General of OPEC’s Fund for International Development (OFID) Suleiman J. Al-Herbish and Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Nguyen Thiep signed a loan agreement on April 10 to co-finance Vietnam’s rural roads rehabilitation projects.

The 34.2 million USD loan, OFID’s largest injection of capital sinceit first provided funding to Vietnam in 1978, will be used to upgraderural roads in Ninh Binh, Quang Tri and Quang Nam provinces.

As many as 83 kilometres of road will be built or upgraded,significantly improving transport routes to the provinces’ poorerdistricts.

Al-Herbish said the signing of thisagreement and consideration of new loans in August are part of hiscommitments he gave to the Vietnamese Government during his visit toVietnam in 2011.

Ambassador Thiep thanked OFIDfor its support to Vietnam . Its development grants, which aregetting larger, contribute to hunger elimination and poverty reduction,as well as infrastructure development in Vietnam .

He expressed his hope that OFID will continue funding Vietnam’sprojects, especially those in education, health care and the privatesector.-VNA

Over 1.2 million students begin national high school graduation exam

Under the current examination format, candidates are required to complete the mandatory Literature and Mathematics tests, along with a combined test comprising two subjects selected from a range of options, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Foreign Languages, History, Geography, Technology-Industry, Technology-Agriculture, and Economics-Law. Students may also choose to take a foreign language different from the one studied at school.

Rare green sea turtle released back into the wild in Quang Tri

The green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), locally known as vich, is a rare and protected species under Vietnamese law. It is also listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as a species of conservation concern and is included in the appendices of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
