Orbis Flying Eye Hospital returns to Da Nang

The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital – the world’s only airborne ophthalmic surgical and training facility – returned to Vietnam ’s central coastal city of Da Nang on August 10 to begin its ophthalmic surgical techniques transfer and training programme for the central region.

During the two-week programme, the hospital’s experts will performsurgery on 55 eye patients and provide laser treatment to 20 retinapatients. Another 200 patients will receive operations and treatmentfrom Da Nang Eye Hospital doctors in September under thesponsorship of ORBIS.

Under the programme, 13leading ophthalmic experts from the UK , the US , Canada and China’s Taiwan will give direct lectures to 41 ophthalmologists and nursesat Da Nang hospital.

In addition, around 100ophthalmologists, 20 nurses and 15 technicians will receive onlinelectures from the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital ’s surgery ward andhands-on instruction.

Founded in 1982, theOrbis Flying Eye Hospital has conducted 269 programmes in 87nations. It landed in Vietnam for the first time at Da Nang Airportin October 2006 and this is the fourth time it has returned to theSoutheast Asian nation and the third time to Da Nang city./.

Phu Tho: 200kg bomb safely relocated, detonated

According to a report by the Phu Tho Military Command, local residents spotted the bomb on August 31 in the Da River after the river water receded, exposing it beneath mud and soil on the riverbed. The bomb remained intact, including its fuse, and was located about 300m from a residential area.

Shift to data-driven administrative procedures needs acceleration
