Organisation helps tighten friendship between Vinh Long, RoK

The Union of Friendship Organisations of Vinh Long province and the Korean Society for Service in Asia (KSSA) jointly organised a ceremony on December 6 to mark the latter’s 25-year operations in the Mekong Delta province.

Vinh Long (VNA) – The Union of Friendship Organisations of Vinh Longprovince and the Korean Society for Service in Asia (KSSA) jointly organised a ceremony on December 6 to mark the latter’s 25-year operations in theMekong Delta province.

Addressing the event, Vice Chairwoman of the provincialPeople’s Committee Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh said that KSSA is the firstnon-governmental organisation (NGO) of the Republic of Korea (RoK) coming toVietnam after the two countries set up diplomatic ties in 1992. It isalso one of the foreign NGOs having the longest and most active operations in VinhLong.

She lauded the contributions of KSSA projects and programmes to improvinglocal people's life quality, especially those in remote rural areas, and to the province’ssocio-economic development.

Vinh Long province hoped that KSSA will continue sponsoringhumanitarian projects in the province, and acting as a bridge to call forforeign NGOs and RoK businesses to the locality.

Over the past 25 years, the Korean organisation has helpedbuild 2,000 charitable houses and 20 bridges, and construct rural roads;provided hundreds of gifts and scholarships to poor students; and called onKorean doctors to provide medical check-ups and medicine for people in remote and isolated areas.

On this occasion, it also presented 10 houses to local poorhouseholds, and 30 bikes and 35 scholarships to poor students with goodlearning performances in Vinh Long./.

Memorial service held for 731 fallen soldiers in Ho Chi Minh City

From June 23 to October 5, Team K74 and other forces recovered 731 sets of martyrs’ remains from the park. Biological samples and DNA samples collected from relatives of unidentified fallen soldiers are being analysed and stored in the national gene bank to support identification efforts.

Saigon River pedestrian bridge set to be joined on October 21

The assembly comprises a main bridge structure weighing about 1,400 tonnes and a specialised steel supporting frame weighing around 2,000 tonnes. During testing, about 30 self-propelled modular transporters were used to lift the assembly 40cm off the ground for technical inspections. Sensors and monitoring equipment recorded key parameters.
