Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Defence Minister Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh gave a reception in Hanoi on January 18 for outgoing Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Preeti Saran.

Vinh highlighted the traditional friendship between Vietnam and India, saying that the two countries have always supported each other at bilateral and multilateral forums.

He stressed the effective and substantial cooperation in defence between the two countries, saying this has contributed to enhancing traditional friendship and mutual understanding between the armies and people of Vietnam and India.

The Deputy Defence Minister hoped the diplomat in her new position would continue contributing to the development of bilateral ties for peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.

For her part, Ambassador Preeti Saran said that after concluding her term of office in Vietnam, she will begin work as Deputy Foreign Minister in charge of Southeast Asian and Latin American affairs.

This will be an opportunity for her to further develop bilateral ties, she added.-VNA
