Over 200 Cambodian peacekeepers dispatched to Mali

Cambodia, on April 27, dispatched 230 troops to join a United Nation (UN) peacekeeping mission in the West African nation of Mali, where they will work in mine clearance and airport construction.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia, on April 27, dispatched 230 troops to join a United Nation (UN) peacekeeping mission in the West African nation of Mali, where they will work in mine clearance and airport construction.

Up until now, the country has deployed 26 detachments of more than 3,550 UN peacekeepers to African countries such as South Sudan and the Central Africa Republic and also to Lebanon, said Sem Sovanny, Director-General of the Cambodian National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces Management, Mines and Explosive Remnants of War Clearance.

Some 895 Cambodian military personnel are serving as UN peacekeepers in six countries, including conflict-torn Syria.

It is the third time the country sent troops for UN peacekeeping missions in Mali.-VNA
