Hanoi(VNA) – More than 4,700 transformer stations across seven northern cities and provinces have yet to resume their normal operation after typhoon Mirinae, the first to hit Vietnam this year, caused a widespread outage in these localities.
They include 2,000 stations in Thai Binh province, 1,246 in Nam Dinh province, 1,044 in Ha Nam province, 160 in Ninh Binh province, 20 in Thanh Hoa province and 300 in Hoa Binh province.
The localities are scheduled to complete the repair work between July 29 and August 5.
According to the Northern Power Cooperation, an arm of the Electricity of Vietnam, power supply has been prioritised to irrigation stations in provinces hardest hit by the storm like Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ha Nam and Ninh Binh to prevent rice fields and crops from flooding.
Typhoon Mirinae has caused human and property damage in the north of the country after it rolled into the mainland from the midnight of July 27.
In the face of the heavy toll, the Prime Minister on July 28 requested the People’s Committees of the northern localities and Thanh Hoa province, ministries, and the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control to summon resources to address the storm’s consequences.-VNA
