PhuYen (VNA) - Work started on the construction of three classrooms in HoaMy Tay primary school, Tay Hoa district of the south-central province of PhuYen on May 16 , in the framework of the Pacific Partnership 2019 programme (PP19).
Agroundbreaking ceremony was attended by US Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink, commanderof PP19 Mission Captain Randy Vann Rossum, and representatives from localauthorities and relevant agencies.
Each classroom covers an area between 180 sq.m - 200sq.m. They are not only forlearning, but also provide accommodation for about 150 people in case of naturaldisasters.
The programme also helps improve, repair and upgrade six other classrooms ofthe school.
The same day’s morning, many activities such as workshops focusing on in-depth discussionof natural disaster response, especially those can cause a large number of casualties; and on medicalprofession.
PP19 Mission is organised in Phu Yen from May 6-17 with a wide range ofactivities, including health check-ups for locals and community exchange.
This is an opportunity for Phu Yen province tojoin Vietnam and regional nations’ efforts in bettering their capacity ofdisaster response. It will help the locality consolidate relations betweenVietnam and its partners around the world.
The pacific partnership programme, promoted bythe US Navy in 2004, aims to improve capacity in response to natural disastersin the Indo-Pacific region.-VNA
