Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs hails relations with Vietnam

Tokyo (VNA) – The Japan-Vietnam relations have been thriving across all fields including politics, culture, economy and people-to-people exchange, Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Miyake Shingo has affirmed.

He made the remark in an interview to the Vietnam News Agency’s correspondent in Tokyo on the occasion of Vietnam’s First National Conference on Foreign Affairs.

The deputy minister said Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made an official visit to Japan last month during which he joined talks with his Japanese counterpart Kishida Fumio, becoming the first foreign leader that Japanese PM Kishida has hosted after he took office.

Miyake voiced a hope that Japan and Vietnam in the coming time will continue with their close economic cooperation and work together to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Earlier, speaking at the Vietnam Festival 2021, he said about 450,000 Vietnamese are living in Japan, and the name Vietnam has become familiar to Japanese. Vietnamese dishes are also popular among local people.

Former General Secretary of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association Motoyoshi Ryokichi stated that the two countries’ relations are based on trust, and there are various potential fields for bilateral cooperation amid arising global issues.

Vietnam offered face masks and protective equipment for Japan when COVID-19 first broke out and the latter presented COVID-19 vaccine to the Southeast Asian nation afterward, which vividly reflected the trustful ties between the two countries, he said./.
