Hanoi (VNA) – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on November 5 signed into issuance Resolution 06-NQ-TW on the goals and guidelines for the effective implementation of international economic integration and maintenance of socio-economic stability in the context of Vietnam joining new generation free trade agreements.

The Resolution, adopted by the recent fourth plenum of the 12th Party Central Committee, points out weaknesses and shortcomings in the process of international economic integration.

It says the implementation of international economic integration and maintenance of socio-economic stability are for the goals of strengthening the economy’s self-reliance capacity, expanding markets, mobilizing more capital, technology, knowledge and management experience for rapid and sustainable growth and improving people’s living standards.

The resolution underlines the need to preserve and promote the national cultural identity, as well as to safeguard national independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to enhance the country’s prestige and position in the world arena.

To those targets, the resolution outlines a number of policies and measures, including renewing the growth model in combination with restructuring the economy; and creating favourable investment and business environment for rapid and sustainable development, while seriously carrying out the country’s international commitments.

In the next 5-10 years, the country will focus on effectively making full use of international commitments, while building mechanisms and policies for trade defence, prevention and handling of international disputes. At the same time, suitable policies should be designed to support the development of sectors of poor competitiveness.

The fourth plenary meeting of the 12 th Party Central Committee was held in Hanoi from October 9-15. The meeting also approved Resolution No. 05-NQ/TW on several major policies and guidelines to continue renewing growth model; improving growth quality, labour productivity and economic competitiveness, and Resolution No. 04-NQ/TW on enhancing Party building and rectification, and prevent and curb ideological, ethical and lifestyle degradation as well as the manifestation of “self-evolution” and “self-transformation” inside the Party.

The committee also discussed a wide range of issues related to the country’s socio-economic situation in 2016 and plans for 2017.-VNA
