General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and his entourage arrived in Tokyo on September 15, beginning a four-day official visit to Japan .

At 16:00 (local time), Prime Minister Shinzo Abe hosted a formal welcome ceremony for the Vietnamese leader at the Akasaka Palace ( State Guesthouse).

General Secretary Trong then received Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida, who described the visit as a contribution to deepening the intensive and extensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Vietnamese party leader expressed his pleasure to visit Japan in the context of the strongly, comprehensively and pragmatically growing bilateral relationship.

He said Vietnam and Japan share many strategic interests and common concerns, both bilaterally and multilaterally, affirming that Vietnam consistently considers Japan its leading important partner.

He praised the role and contributions of Fumio Kishida as the Foreign Minister and Secretary General of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Union to the bilateral friendship and collaboration and suggested the minister continue his efforts to step up measures to increase political trust and economic connectivity between the two nations and support Vietnam ’s sustainable development.

Appreciating Vietnam ’s support for Japan in recent years, Kishida said his country will enhance cooperation with Vietnam for peace and stability in the East Sea and maintain its official development assistance for the Southeast Asian nation in the field of transport infrastructure.

He expressed his wish that Vietnam will continue promoting collaboration with Japan in the coming time.

He also pledged to double efforts to promote the development of the intensive and extensive strategic partnership between the two countries.-VNA
