Party leader approves HCM City’s preparations for 11th municipal Party Congress

Hanoi (VNA) –
Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen PhuTrong on September 3 lauded the Ho Chi Minh City Party organisation for its thoroughpreparations for the upcoming 11th municipal Party Congress(2020-2025 tenure).

Speakingat a working session between the Politburo and the Standing Board of the city PartyCommittee in Hanoi, the top Party leader asked the committee to continueacquiring opinions of the public and scientists in order to complete draftdocuments to the congress.

Heunderlined the special position and importance of HCM City, which is a specialmunicipality and a major centre of economy, culture, education-training andscience-technology, a hub of international exchange and integration, and aneconomic locomotive of the Southern key economic zone and the nation at large.  

Thefive-year Party congress is an important political and historical event as itopens up a new vision for a new development period, he stressed. Therefore, itmust be prepared thoroughly.

Theleader suggested the documents focus more on the Party building work, apartfrom economic issues.

Atthe meeting, the Politburo basically supported the targets, orientations, tasksand solutions mapped out by the city for the 2020-2025 period, with a visiontowards 2030.

However,Politburo members said the city should devise a long-term vision on itsposition in Southeast Asia, and pay more attention to removing bottleneckshindering its socio-economic development like those regarding transportinfrastructure, high-quality human resources, administrative procedures,investment environment, and regional cooperation and connectivity.

HCMCity needs to optimise all opportunities, potential and strength to overcomechallenges and difficulties, thus becoming a national economic driver, towardsa big centre of economy, finance, trade and science-technology in SoutheastAsia, the Politburo said.

TheStanding Board reported that HCM City’s average growth rate stood at 7.6percent over the past five years, and it contributed 22.7 percent of thenational gross domestic product (GDP).

Sectorswith high value and using science-technology make up an increasing proportionin the local economic structure. Meanwhile, the city’s investment environmenthas been improved significantly. HCM City has also taken the lead nationwide inproductivity.

Itsper capita gross regional domestic product (GRDP) reached 6,600 USD, 2.4 timeshigher than the national average, with improvements made in social welfare, jobgeneration and poverty reduction./.
