Eighty young members of the Communist Party were invited for a dialogue with HCM City Party leaders on Jan. 27.

The occasion provided them an opportunity to express their opinions, aspirations and suggestions to develop the Party and the city.

The city leaders expressed their concerns. The secretary of the municipal Party Committee, Le Thanh Hai; deputy secretary and chairwoman of the People’s Council, Pham Phuong Thao; and deputy secretary Nguyen Van Dua attended the dialogue.

The youth delegates had an average age of 28, with the oldest being Nguyen Tri Thuc, 37, secretary of Cho Ray Hospital ’s Communist Youth Union. The youngest was Nguyen Thien Hao, 21, from the HCM City University of Architecture.

Forty seven of them have graduated from universities and colleges.

Dua said many young people joined the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union, striving to become members of the Party.

Under the Party’s guidance, Vietnam ’s position in the world has grown stronger, with the country becoming a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and chairman of the ASEAN this year.

Pham Mai Linh from the Saigon Technology University expressed concern that the youth unions have not done their job of fostering and training young people to become Party members well.

Linh suggested measures to instill patriotism in the younger generation.

The meeting also discussed the disparity between the rich and poor.

In his concluding speech, Hai appreciated the opinions expressed by the youngsters.

He called on them to assist the city leaders to carry out four important tasks – alter the city’s economic structure, develop young human resources, administrative reform and improve urban management./.
