Hanoi (VNA) – The Governments of thePhilippines and Indonesia have agreed to step up cooperation in ensuringmaritime security to fight against piracy conducted by extremists on the watersbetween the two countries.
The agreement was reached during April 28talks between Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and his Indonesiancounterpart Joko Widodo who is in the Philippines to attend the 30th ASEAN Summit.
The two leaders discussed security issuesof common interest, the drug fight, trade relations, and people-to-peopleexchanges.
They also witnessed the signing of amemorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation, including technicalassistance, joint research and consultation.
The two Presidents expressed their hopesthat ASEAN conferences in 2017 will be successful, and affirmed their pledge tomaintain peace, stability and prosperity in the region.-VNA
