The Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs has proposed the Government spend more than 309 billion VND (15.7 million USD) on those who had made a contribution to the country's reunification to enjoy the traditional Lunar New Year Festival.
According to the submission, heroic mothers, heroes of the people's armed forces, labour heroes, and war invalids with major disabilities who receive a monthly allowance will be presented 400,000 VND(19 USD) on this festival.
War invalids with less serious disabilities, relatives of martyrs and those whose health was declined due to the effects of Agent Orange will be presented 200,000 VND (9.5 USD) in addition to their monthly allowance.
Hanoi Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs deputy director Nguyen The Hung said on Jan. 10 the city would spend nearly 200 billion VND (10.2 million USD) for more than 730,000 poor people and those who had made a contribution to country.
Hung said the city's regulation stipulated that benefactors would receive between 300,000-500,000 VND (14-23 USD), retired officers would be given 200,000 VND (9.5 USD), poor people 300,000 VND (14 USD) and the elderly 1 million VND each.
Da Nang People's Committee has decided to present 855 million VND (43,605 USD) to support cleaners who are in charge of garbage collection at the city's streets during the Tet holiday.
Cleaners will receive 600,000 VND (28.5 USD) each and cyclo drivers will receive 250,000 VND (11.9 USD) per head to enjoy the festival.
Last year, Hanoi spent more than 108 billion VND (5.5 million USD) to help the poor prepare for the Tet holiday./.
