The prime minister has approved an advance of 239 billion VND (11.1 million USD) from the state budget for the implementation of projects on evacuating residents from areas vulnerable to natural disasters in 2014.
According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, 45 emergency projects are in need of capital to move a total 7,077 households with over 33,000 people in areas prone to flash floods and landslides in 24 provinces nationwide.
Statistics show that 250 flash floods and hundreds of landslides have occurred in Vietnam’s mountainous provinces since 2000, causing serious damages in terms of property, lives and production.-VNA
