Son La (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the opening ceremonyof the 2022 Fruit and OCOP (One Commune One Product) Product Festival in the northernmountainous province of Son La on May 28 evening.

The festival, jointly held by the province and the VietnamFarmers’ Union Central Committee, aims to honour fruit growers and promoteVietnam’s OCOP brand. It is one of events of the Prime Minister's 2022 Dialoguewith Vietnamese farmers held in Son La.

Organisations, businesses and cooperativesfrom provinces and cities nationwide are showcasing their fruits and products at more than 320 stalls fromMay 28-31. Several seminars, exhibitions and contests are expected to take placewithin the framework of the festival.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, PM Chinh asked theagricultural sector in general and Son La in particular to focus on developingthe agricultural ecosystem and the fruit industry ecosystem, building greeneconomy and circular economy in agriculture, thus contributing to environmentalprotection and greenhouse gas emission reduction, encourage start-ups,innovation and digital transformation in this sector, and diversify exportmarkets.

To sustainably develop agricultural products, fruits andOCOP products, it is important to pay attention to building brands; planningand developing raw material resources; developing organic agriculture, and applyinghigh technology, and processing and post-harvest preservation technologes; mobilisingcapital support and diversifying investment resources; and developing andexpanding markets, said Chinh.

He also stressed the need to develop transport, agricultural,health, educational and cultural infrastructure for rural areas.

Vietnam has become one of the world’s leading exporters ofagro-forestry-fishery products with a value of more than 48 billion USD in2021, including nearly 3.6 billion USD from vegetables and fruits.

The OCOP Programme was officially carried out nationwide in2018. To date, the country has had nearly 7,500 OCOP products.

Earlier on the same day, the Government leader visited an agriculturalproduction area in Hat Lot commune, Mai Son district, and inspected theconstruction process of Doveco Son La Fruit and Vegetable Processing Centre, inthe district./.

Binh Thuan ramps up measures to combat IUU fishing

According to the Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has completed registration for all “three-no” fishing boats - vessels without registration, licences or monitoring systems - measuring six metres or more. About 2,710 such vessels have been registered, meeting 100% of the ministry’s requirements and 2,012 operational vessels have been fitted with VMS devices.

Vietnam, US hold 169th repatriation ceremony for American MIA servicemen

At the ceremony, Vietnam handed over four boxes containing remains recovered during recent joint excavations in Hue city, and Quang Tri and Kon Tum provinces. Preliminary forensic analysis on April 15 suggested the remains may belong to US MIAs and they will be sent to Hawaii for further identification.

Second government legislation meeting reviews draft bills

In his opening speech, PM Pham Minh Chinh revealed the Government’s plan to submit 63 documents and reports to the 15th NA’s 9th session, including 37 draft laws and regulatory resolutions, all aimed at having a wide-ranging impact on society. Earlier this month, feedback was provided on six other draft laws and resolutions.
