PM highlights ASEAN chief’s role in promoting regional connectivity

Hanoi (VNA) –
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received in Hanoi onMarch 31 Secretary General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) Lim Jock Hoi on the sidelines of the sixth Greater Mekong SubregionSummit (GMS-6).

The PM highlighted the increasing role of the ASEAN chief and ASEAN Secretariatin promoting regional connectivity and ensuring harmony among nations.

He said he hopes in the coming time, the ASEAN Secretariat will further promoteits function of researching and proposing policies which serve as a basis for membercountries’ consultation.

The ASEAN Secretariat also needs to step up supervision and coordination of theimplementation of the grouping’s agreements, he said, stressing the principleof consensus.

The PM underlined the ASEAN Secretariat’s tasks of strengthening solidarity amongmember countries, and maintaining the central role in an open, transparent and rules-basedregional architecture based on respect for the interests of each other. 

The PM affirmed Vietnam will do its best to contribute to the bloc’sdevelopment while asking the ASEAN Secretary General to coordinate and createconditions for Vietnam to fulfill the role of ASEAN Chair in 2020.

The ASEAN chief said he believes that Vietnam will fulfil its role as ASEANChair in 2020, and expressed his wish that PM Phuc will considers financial supportin order to contribute to improving effectiveness of the ASEAN Secretariat’s futureactivities. - VNA

The draft resolution seeks to lure more investment into cultural industries, aiming for the sector to contribute 7% to GDP by 2030 and 9% by 2045. It also sets ambitious goals of ranking Vietnam among the top three countries in Southeast Asia and the global top 30 for national soft power.

Pathways to double-digit growth to be tabled at 16th NA’s first session

In the morning sitting on April 20, deputies are expected to hear proposals and verification reports on a range of draft resolutions. The documents cover breakthrough mechanisms and policies for the development of Vietnamese culture; the establishment of Dong Nai as a centrally run city; a pilot framework for public lawyer institution; and special mechanisms to address land law violations committed prior to the 2024 Land Law taking effect, alongside measures to resolve long-delayed and stalled projects.

NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man’s working trip to Italy and Türkiye achieved important and comprehensive results at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
