Can Tho (VNA) – PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception for international development partners,organisations and sponsors in Can Tho city on March 13 on the sidelines of the thirdConference on Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development of Mekong RiverDelta of Vietnam.

Thanking them for participatingin the event, the PM emphasised that their cooperation remains extremelyimportant to Vietnam. Vietnam has studied cases of several deltas in Europe andother parts of the world and looked into models, practices and lessons learnedfrom many countries, he said, it is important to not only boost economic cooperation but also foster experience sharing in climate change response indeltas.

He underscored the significanceof resources to the development of the Mekong Delta in the face of severenatural disasters, saying he hopes foreign partner countries and international organisationswill work alongside Vietnam to create new resources.

The PM also urged for furtherexpanding partnership in human resources training, foreign directinvestment and protection of rivers, particularly downstream areas in Vietnamand regional countries which are vulnerable to actions in upstream areas.

He emphasised the importance of international cooperation in protecting cross-border rivers, saying that he wantsto receive opinions and learn from experience of other countries.

Representatives of developmentpartners and organisations, meanwhile, highly appreciated Vietnam’s efforts topromoting sustainable and climate-resilient development of the Mekong Deltathrough the issuance of the Government's Resolution 120/NQ-CP in 2017 and itshosting of the conference.

They also demonstrated a strongcommitment to cooperating with and supporting Vietnam in this area./.
