PM inspects preparations for launching Hanoi’s key projects

Nhat Tan bridge, the road connecting the bridge and the Noi BaiInternational Airport and the airport’s new Terminal T2 are nationalkey projects that were constructed with investment sources from theJapanese Government’s official development assistance (ODA) loan and theVietnamese Government’s counterpart capital.

During hisinspection, the PM hailed efforts made by the Ministry of Transport, themunicipal authorities and relevant agencies in overcoming difficultiesto complete the projects on schedule.

He asked theministry to continue to fulfill auxiliary works of the projects, andarrange personnel for effectively operating the facilities once they areofficially operational.

The leader stressed the aviationdevelopment not only serves the sector’s economy but also spurs otherfields, especially tourism and services, adding that it is necessary tofurther expand the sector with focus on security and safety.

Nhat Tan Bridge is one of seven bridges spanning the Red River inHanoi. The 8.9km bridge with eight lanes will be a key traffic route forthe capital as it links Noi Bai, a major port of entry, and downtownHanoi.

Covering an area of around 139,300 sq.m, the four-floorTerminal T2 was built with a total cost of nearly 1 billion USD. It hasa capacity for serving 10 million passengers a year in the 2015-2020period, and and then expand to 15 million passengers a year in theten years later.

The terminal has been receivinginternational flights since December 25 as a trial run before theofficial opening ceremony. T2 is expected to help reduce the strain onT1, which has accommodated passengers from both domestic andinternational flights up until now.

Meanwhile, the roadconnecting Nhat Tan Bridge and Noi Bai Airport is expected to shortenthe time to travel from Hanoi to Noi Bai’s new Terminal 2 by half.

Once operational, the projects will significantly contribute toimproving Hanoi’s transport network , thus promoting socio-economicdevelopment of the capital and surrounding areas.-VNA

National, local traffic safety committees to be dissolved from June 1
