PM inspects preparations for launching Hanoi’s key projects

Nhat Tan bridge, the road connecting the bridge and the Noi Bai International Airport and the airport’s new Terminal T2 are national key projects that were constructed with investment sources from the Japanese Government’s official development assistance (ODA) loan and the Vietnamese Government’s counterpart capital.
During his inspection, the PM hailed efforts made by the Ministry of Transport, the municipal authorities and relevant agencies in overcoming difficulties to complete the projects on schedule.
He asked the ministry to continue to fulfill auxiliary works of the projects, and arrange personnel for effectively operating the facilities once they are officially operational.
The leader stressed the aviation development not only serves the sector’s economy but also spurs other fields, especially tourism and services, adding that it is necessary to further expand the sector with focus on security and safety.
Nhat Tan Bridge is one of seven bridges spanning the Red River in Hanoi. The 8.9km bridge with eight lanes will be a key traffic route for the capital as it links Noi Bai, a major port of entry, and downtown Hanoi.
Covering an area of around 139,300 sq.m, the four-floor Terminal T2 was built with a total cost of nearly 1 billion USD. It has a capacity for serving 10 million passengers a year in the 2015-2020 period, and and then expand to 15 million passengers a year in the ten years later.
The terminal has been receiving international flights since December 25 as a trial run before the official opening ceremony. T2 is expected to help reduce the strain on T1, which has accommodated passengers from both domestic and international flights up until now.
Meanwhile, the road connecting Nhat Tan Bridge and Noi Bai Airport is expected to shorten the time to travel from Hanoi to Noi Bai’s new Terminal 2 by half.
Once operational, the projects will significantly contribute to improving Hanoi’s transport network , thus promoting socio-economic development of the capital and surrounding areas.-VNA
