PM meets Grand Duke of Luxembourg

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Henri, at the Grand Ducal Palace on December 10 (local time) as part of his official visit to Luxembourg.

Luxembourg, (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meetingwith the Grand Duke of  Luxembourg, Henri, at the Grand Ducal Palace on December 10 (localtime) as part of his official visit to Luxembourg.

PM Chinh took the occasion to affirm that Vietnam attaches importance to andwants to strengthen its comprehensive cooperation with Luxembourg, a foundingmember of the European Union (EU).

The Grand Duke shared his good impression from his visit to Vietnam 10 yearsago, and voiced support for the will of the two countries’ Government to take theirbilateral relationship into a new period of development.

The two sides took note with pleasures the development of bilateral cooperation,especially in investment, since the two countries established diplomatic ties nearly50 years ago.

PM Chinh conveyed an invitation from Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong andPresident Nguyen Xuan Phuc to the Grand Duke of Luxembourg to visit Vietnam in2023 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic tiesbetween the two countries.

The Grand Duke expressed his wish to early visit Vietnam again to witness theSoutheast Asian country’s socio-economic achievements and further deepen theLuxembourg-Vietnam cooperation, first of all in green finance andeducation-training.

The Vietnamese government leader shared with the Grand Duke theresolve of the two governments to promote cooperation in potential fields suchas green finance, renewable energy, logistics connectivity and the earlyformation of a strategic partnership on green finance, with the aim of optimizingLuxembourg’s strengths and helping Vietnam implement its green growth strategyin 20021-2030 with a vision to 2050, and deliver on its commitments on climate changeat the 26th United Nations Climate Changeconference (COP26).

Regarding economy-trade, the two leaders agreed on the need to effectivelyimplement the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). PM Chinh asked the Luxembourgside to push for the early ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment ProtectionAgreement (EVIPA) by other EU members.

Vietnam also hoped to receive Luxembourg’s support in finance and technology duringthe transition to and development of renewable energy, and in the establishmentof a just energy transition partnership (JETP) with G7 and internationalpartners on the basis of ensuring harmonious interests of all parties so as totogether respond to global issues, Chinh said.

Grand Duke Henri spoke highly of Vietnam’s role in the region and theAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He noted his concern aboutclimate change in the Mekong Delta, which he considered a key issue in the bilateralrelations between the two countries. He also pledged to support Vietnam in realisinggreen growth targets.
      
The Grand Duke said hesupports and encourages Luxembourg firms to increase investment in Vietnam insuch fields as digital transformation, renewable energy, strategicinfrastructure. He also advocated stronger cooperation in education-training,culture, sports and tourism, people-to-people exchanges, and especially the provisionof more scholarships for Vietnamese students to receive education inLuxembourg.  
         
PM Chinh thanked the Grand Duke for the support, andsuggested that he continue to create favourable conditions for the Vietnamesecommunity in Luxembourg in their integration into the host society./.

452 lawmakers, or 94.56% of the total number of deputies present, voted in favour the revised Law on Corporate Income Tax, while the amended Excise Tax Law was adopted with 448 out of 454 deputies present voting in favour, accounting for 93.72% of the total.

PM Pham Minh Chinh visits Sweden’s Uppsala University

The Vietnamese leader proposed Uppsala University establish a partnership with a national university in Vietnam; strengthen collaboration in education, research, and academic exchanges with Vietnamese institutions; and offer scholarships to Vietnamese students and researchers, thus advancing the newly established sectoral strategic partnership in science, technology, and innovation between the two countries.
