PM orders strong economic restructuring in Soc Trang

The Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang should make strong economic structure shifting for achieving major breakthroughs in the socio-economic development in 2019, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Soc Trang (VNA) –The Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang should makestrong  economic structure shifting for achievingmajor breakthroughs in the socio-economic development in 2019, said PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

At a working session on April 6 with the local leaders on local socio-economyand security and defence in the first quarter of 2019, PM Phuc stressed that developinghigh-tech agriculture adapting to climate change, a complete seafood valuechain, and clean energy models play an important role in the economic structureshifting.

In addition, production should be expanded, development of private firms andcooperatives must be prioritised, and local authorities should move to attractinvestments from prestigious corporations, he said.

PM Phuc asked local authorities to pay heed to improving education, the qualityof human resources, ethnic minority and religious affairs and socialmanagement.

On the occasion of the Khmer New Year Festival or Chol Chnam Thmay, herequested authorities at all levels to timely give support to the impoverished,ensuring that all the Khmer people enjoy a warm traditional festival.

Earlier, PM Phuc visited and delivered NewYear greetings to the Association for Solidarity of Patriotic Buddhist Monksand Pali school, and offered incense at Khleang pagoda in the province.

According to the province’s report, Soc Trang achieved stable agriculturalproduction, and increases in the production value as well as retail sales inthe first quarter of this year. Social welfare policies were carried out in afull and timely manner, and Party and political system building wascomprehensively implemented as well.

However, the province still faces various challenges, including extreme weatherthat affects local production, unstable markets for several farm produce,limitation in value chain establishment, unsettled bottlenecks in investmentprocedures, and a shortage of skillful workers.-VNA

HCM City to use municipal budget for Metro Line No. 2 project

The Metro Line No. 2 project has an estimated investment of nearly 47.9 trillion VND (2 billion USD) and has nearly completed land clearance, at 99.8%. The NA’s Resolution 188 authorises HCM City to develop seven metro lines spanning 355 kilometres over the next decade, with preliminary total investment for the 2025-2035 phase estimated at 40.2 billion USD.
