Vietnam’s youth follows the path of President Ho Chi Minh

Like previous generations who always bear the image of President Ho Chi Minh in their hearts, today’s young generation also keep the late leader’s teachings in mind, with the message of “where the support is needed, youths are present/ where difficulties appear, there are youths” becoming a guide for young people to follow.

Hanoi (VNA) – Like previous generations who always bear the image of President Ho Chi Minh in their hearts, today’s young generation also keep the late leader’s teachings in mind, with the message of “where the support is needed, youths are present/ where difficulties appear, there are youths” becoming a guide for young people to follow.

“Loudspeaker” teacher amid the COVID-19 pandemic

Working at Dich Vong B Primary School in Hanoi’s Cau Giay district since 2011, teacher Nguyen Van Quyet has also held the position as the guide of the Ho Chi Minh Vanguard Children’s Union at the school for nine years. But people now know Quyet more by her nickname “loudspeaker” teacher.

Laughing when asked about this nickname, Quyet recalled: “In late March 2020, when the Prime Minister decided to apply social distancing to intensify COVID-19 prevention and control, I decided to participate in a mobile dissemination team of Cau Giay district’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union”.

“At that time, I just thought, being youth union members, we must be at the pioneering position as taught by President Ho Chi Minh when he was alive,” stated Quyet.

Realising that the use of the district and ward’s cars for the dissemination work is not really convenient, Quyet proposed using loudspeakers fastened behind motorbikes as motorbikes could enter small paths. This proposal was accepted by Cau Giay district’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, and even parents of a student in Dich Vong B Primary School bought a loudspeaker to present to the union.

Just one day later, residents in Cau Giay district began seeing motorbikes with loudspeakers behind them, going into small alleys. The drivers, who wore blue volunteer shirts, drove so slowly that locals had enough time to hear all dissemination contents about the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quyet said he was very happy when his team’s work was praised by the locals.

“In dissemination articles, we try to give the most accurate information about the pandemic and knowledge and skills to prevent the disease, and accurately and promptly update the results that Vietnam has achieved in disease prevention and control,” shared Quyet.

The “loudspeaker” teacher has also provided support for those living in difficulties amid the COVID-19 outbreaks. He has connected donors with four rice ATMs and the Fatherland Front Committees of wards in four districts of Cau Giay, Bac Tu Liem, Ha Dong and Tay Ho district, who presented a total volume of nearly two tonnes of rice. He personally also contributed 200kg of rice to support these ATMs to help disadvantaged families.

Blue shirts in the battle against COVID-19

Like the “loudspeaker” teacher, as the nation faces the COVID-19 storm, millions of youths in Hanoi and the entire nation have promoted their pioneering role as taught by President Ho Chi Minh.

Nguyen Ngoc Dung, deputy secretary in charge of Me Linh commune’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in Hanoi’s Me Linh district, recounts the days he worked in the Ha Loi epicentre.

“As soon as Ha Loi reported the first positive case, I and other colleagues were inspecting disease prevention and control work at grassroots units. Hearing the news, we decided to return to the headquarters of the Commune People's Committee. Starting from that moment, Me Linh officially changed from a state of prevention to battling the disease,” Dung recalled.

Dung and 10 young Party members of Me Linh commune then volunteered to work at Ha Loi’s entry and exit checkpoints, with the aim of ensuring health, security and order and logistics services for quarantined locals.

“We were all hoarse after the first few days working at the post, continuously talking to locals on disease prevention and handing out basic necessities,” Dung said.

The receipt and transportation of necessities may be the hardest work for Dung’s team. There are days that the blue-shirt volunteers had to receive 20 tonnes of rice and 10 tonnes of vegetables. As the goods were stopped at the post, they had to transfer all of the commodities to smaller vehicles for distribution to each village.

Like Dung, young student Duong Thu Huong of the Hanoi University of Public Health also volunteered on the front line. Huong was among 40 volunteer students of the university who participated in taking test samples at Bac Tu Liem district.

“It was the most meaningful month when we – young people – had the opportunity to bring our knowledge to partly contribute to the nation’s battle,” Huong said.

Huong, Dung, and the “loudspeaker” teacher are just three among tens of thousands of young people devoting their efforts to the nation under President Ho Chi Minh’s teaching, “where the support is needed, youths are present/ where difficulties appear, there are youths.”

Secretary of Hanoi’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Nguyen Ngoc Viet said that, on the occasion of the 130th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19), the union has organised a series of political activities with practical emulation movements and deeds. Of note, a Hanoi programme supplied 8,000 meals a day to students, workers and those who faced difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, the “10,000 jobs to prevent unemployment amid pandemic” campaign has attracted the participation of 963 businesses that offered jobs for 10,473 youth union members, students, and young people./.
