The Thai Royal Police is stepping up efforts to create the best conditions for people who join the Songkran celebration, especially during April 11-17.

Assistant National Police Chief Pol Lt GenRuangsak Jaritek chaired a ceremony to deploy 850 police officers atvarious locations to assist travelers during Songkran holidays.According to him, a huge number of people will be returning to theirhometowns this weekend.

In the meantime, the Metropolitan PoliceBureau has been asked to enforce strict laws on drunk driving andalcohol distribution as well as sexual harassment during this year’sfestival. Checkpoints and complaint centers will also be set up toensure order and safety.

Permanent Secretary for Public HealthDr. Narong Sahametapat has ordered 855 hospitals and more than 160,000authorities throughout Thailand to be on a 24-hour alert. Inaddition, 14,000 medical teams will be on standby in case of anemergency.-VNA
