ASEAN boosts education cooperation

ASEAN senior officials on education convened their 9th meeting in Vientiane , Laos on September 9 to prepare for the upcoming 8th ASEAN Education Ministers’ Meeting (ASED 8), also to be held in the Lao capital.
ASEAN senior officials on education convened their 9th meeting inVientiane , Laos on September 9 to prepare for the upcoming 8thASEAN Education Ministers’ Meeting (ASED 8), also to be held in the Laocapital.

The meeting reviewed the association’seducation activities in the 2011-2015 period and found thatcollaboration in the field among member states has contributed toraising the sense of solidarity in the bloc as well as boosting itssocio-economic and environmental development.

Participants discussed ASEAN resolutions to narrow the gap in thedevelopment of education and exchanged views on the ASEAN QualificationsReference Framework (AQRF), the ASEAN Students Exchange Programme(ASEP) and the ASEAN University Network (AUN).

Ondiscussion were also cooperation programmes, projects and activitieswith dialogue partners such as ASEAN +3 and East Asia Summit (EAS)education cooperation, framework agreement on cooperation between ASEANand UNESCO, and Fulbright-ASEAN initiative.

Theimplementation of the post-2015 vision, especially in developing humanresources in the bloc for the common prosperity of the region, wastabled during the meeting.-VNA
