Singapore, Australia step up defence science - technology cooperation

Singapore and Australia recently renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on promoting cooperation in defence science and technology, said the Singapore’s Ministry of Defence on July 23.
Singapore and Australia recently renewed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) on promoting cooperation in defence science and technology, saidthe Singapore’s Ministry of Defence on July 23.

Accordingly, thecollaboration will cover research, technical exchange and integration.The MoU creates a framework for both countries to implement science andtechnology projects.

Singapore and Australia have worked togetherin defence technology since the 1990s. The relations have expanded withthe inauguration of the Australia-Singapore Science and TechnologyForum as well as the MoU on defence science and technology collaborationinked in 2005.

Last month, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee HsienLoong and his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott signed a partnershipagreement to deepen bilateral cooperation across economics, foreignaffairs and defence-security as well as connect the two peoples, markingthe 50th anniversary of Australia-Singapore diplomatic relations.-VNA
