Indonesia opens Southeast Asia’s biggest fertiliser factory

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo on November 20 inaugurated the Kaltim V Fertiliser Factory, the biggest of its kind in Southeast Asia, in the East Kalimantan.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the President said fertiliser factories play an important role in boosting agricultural production to meet local food demand and for export.
General Director of the East Kalimantan Fertiliser Corporation Aas Asikin Idat said the factory is one of the first projects in the strategy of recovering Indonesia’s fertiliser production sector.
The 576 million USD factory is designed to turn out 825,000 tonnes of Amoniac and 1.5 million tonnes of Ure per year, raising the annual capacity of the Inti Karya Persada Tehnik (IKPT) Company, an affiliate of TOYO Corporation, to 2.74 million tonnes of Amoniac and 3.43 million tonnes of Ure.
Kaltim V is also the most energy-efficient factory in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, expected to save 115 million USD from energy bills each year.
On this occasion, Indonesia also put into operation the 203 million USD Acid Phosphate II Factory, invested by Petrokimia Gresik in East Java to provide material for NPK fertiliser production.
The country is completing many big projects in fertiliser production, including Amurea II (660,000 tonnes of Amoniac and 570,000 tonnes of Ure per year) in East Java and B Pusri II ( 660,000 tonnes of Amoniac and 907,000 tonnes of Ure per annum) in Palembang, South Sumatra.-VNA
