President Truong Tan Sang joined 30 heads of States and governments and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at a ceremony in Beijing, China on September 3 to mark the 70th anniversary of victory over fascism during World War II.

Addressing the event, Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted the significance of the victory 70 years ago. He expressed his gratitude to international friends and countries around the world for supporting the Chinese people.

The World War II heavily affected humankind, including the Chinese people, he said, underscoring the importance of the victory in the growth of China as well as the need to maintain peace.

Xi Jinping also wished for a human community that would share the same fate without discrimination, hatred or war and in which all countries are equal, respect each other and share peace and prosperity.

He also pointed to the need to maintain world order on the basis of the UN Charter and international law while pledging that China will persistently promote peace.

Following the ceremony, a massive parade took place with the involvement of 12,000 soldiers from the Chinese armed forces and several foreign armies.-VNA
