President hosts outgoing Algerian Ambassador

Hanoi (VNA) – President Nguyen Xuan Phuc onOctober 22 hosted a reception for outgoing Algerian Ambassador Mohamed Berrah,who came to bid his farewell.

The President lauded the diplomat’s contributions to the Vietnam-Algeria relations, particularly in trade and investment. He said the two countries share a longstanding traditional relationship and mutualsupport in their past struggles for national liberation and in national construction at present.

For his part, Berrah expressed his delights at his sixsuccessful years in Vietnam. Vietnam has had the miraculous development in all aspects and suchdevelopment is a model for Algeria to learn from, he noted, adding that the twocountries have effectively cooperated and supported each other at internationalforums.

The diplomat said he coordinated with the authorities of thetwo countries to organise many commemorative activities to show the affectionfor the country and people of Vietnam over the past time.

He hoped the nations to step up their implementation ofeconomic cooperation pacts. The ambassador suggested Vietnam send experts in energy andagriculture to Algeria to assist and cooperate with the African country inexploiting its strength in these fields, which Phuc agreed.  

President Phuc said as the bilateral trade has only reached145 million USD, he has assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to implement aproject on promoting trade between Vietnam and Algeria to exploit theirstrengths and markets.

He took the occasion to thank the Algerian Government for facilitating the operation of the nations’ joint petroland oil projects in Algeria.

Phuc said he wishes the countries organise many activitiesto mark the 60th founding anniversary of their diplomatic relationsnext year, thereby further promoting their sound traditional ties, which hebelieves will grow stronger in all aspects.

He sent an invitation to his Algeriancounterpart to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.

He said he hopes the outgoing ambassador will make furtherefforts in promoting Vietnam – Algeria cooperation in his future positions./.
