Hanoi (VNA) –President Tran Dai Quang on May 17 hosted Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs andInternational Cooperation Prak Sokhonn who is in Vietnam to co-chair the 16thmeeting of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural,Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

The State leader congratulatedCambodian people on the achievements they have obtained, while showing hisdelight at the growth of the Vietnam-Cambodia partnership in all fields frompolitics, diplomacy, defence to economy, trade and investment, benefitingpeople of both sides.

He spoke highly of theregular exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high level ones,between the two countries, along with the effectiveness of cooperationmechanisms in trade, investment, education, tourism, security, and defence, aswell as collaboration among ministries, sectors and localities.

He lauded the outcomesof the 16th meeting of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Commission on Economic,Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, holding that the minutes ofthe meeting will lay firm foundation for the further expansion of bilateralties in the coming time.

He asked Minister PrakSokhonn to convey his regards to King Norodom Sihamoni and expressed his wishto welcome the King to visit Vietnam latter the year.

For his part, MinisterPrak Sokhonn noted that Vietnam and Cambodia jointly held many specific activitiesto mark the Friendship Year 2017 and the 50th anniversary of the establishmentof diplomatic ties.

He briefed his host onoutcomes of the 16th meeting of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Commission onEconomic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, with the minutesof the meeting signed to act as a guideline for ministries and sectors of bothsides to implement their cooperation.

He said that at themeeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of issues such as economy, trade,investment, culture, society, security, and defence, while showing theirdetermination to thoroughly settle border-related issues as well as othermatters in bilateral relations.

The minister showedgratitude towards the Party, State and people of Vietnam for saving Cambodiafrom the genocidal regime in the past, as well as providing assistance for Cambodia’snational development.

President Quang laudedefforts of authorised agencies over the past years in completing a large numberof workload in land border demarcation and planting.

He proposed that inthe coming time, the two sides should exert more efforts in seeking moreeffective measures to finish the rest of the work, while coordinating closelyin managing a shared border towards peace and stability.

He said that he hopesthe Cambodian side will continue applying flexibly related policies to assist VietnameseCambodians, with the consideration of political, legal, historical and socialfactors to create optimal conditions for the community, helping them settledown in the host country and make contributions to the local development.

The Vietnamese leaderalso suggested that Minister Prak Sokhonn continue contributing to thereinforcement of the sound neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensivecooperation and long-term sustainability between Cambodia and Vietnam.-VNA
